Australian Brett Massoud first visited and fell "in-love" with Madagascar in 1987, and has been living permanently in the south east of the country since 1999. After that first visit, wanting to stay involved in the development of Madagascar, and with a particular interest in the south east, Brett founded the UK registered charity "Azafady" in 1994 (www.azafady.org), and then founded the Malagasy association "NGO Azafady" in 1997. Brett worked as Director General for Azafady UK in Madagascar, presiding over millions of pounds of development-aid for the Anosy Region until his retirement from that position in November 2009. He remains Honorary President of NGO Azafady to this day, and has a particular interest in projects that support conservation efforts in the Anosy Region and the promotion and protection of Malagasy culture, oral history, and music. Since retirement from Azafady UK, Brett has founded a new NGO in the south east (Association FILANA - purely concentrating on support of conservation in the Ambatoatsignana New Protected Area) and a private company, Dadamanga SARL (dadamanga.com). The development of Dadamanga is a natural progression for someone with a long history in the south east of Madagascar and a love of nature and Malagasy culture. The company owns strategic sites for eco-based-holidays in close proximity to nature and surf; a base on the seafront in Fort Dauphin town, and spectacular beach-front sites in the rural fishing villages of Evatra, Lokaro and Sainte Luce (sainte-luce-reserve.org). Dadamanga aims to provide holiday experiences "with personality", the type of holidays that are normally reserved for locals and people "in-the-know". Spectacular sites, endless beaches, abundant nature and wildlife, charming staff, the highest standards of catering, a splash of local music, a splash of local rum, some dolphins in the waves, and perhaps most importantly, a knowledge and understanding of this part of Madagascar that is unsurpassed by any other company, and, all driven by an Australian understanding of excellent service, excellent food and an excellent time. Brett is an Australian Consular Warden for Madagascar and is able to assist with many consular services if required.
Summer in the south east
By dadamanga on December 29, 2009
December holidays come around and every year I think, “hmm, where will I go for a break this year?” and my decision is always the same. I stay at home in Fort Dauphin and spend the time visiting our spectacular beaches and enjoying the perfect weather! Summer is for me the best time to visit [...]
