Enjoy a colorful november: mangos, mimosa, jacaranda and so on

Sometimes when you are too used to your everyday life, you just don’t pay attention to all those nice things happening around you. This time, I just wanted to take Madafan readers through three things that you sometimes take for granted that you don’t pay attention too… Those things has one thing in common: colors (although coulours happen in diffeent-unexpected ways)…

1- lovely mangos

This paragraph is specifically dedicated to a friend who used to coming to Madagascar and buy a kilo of mango down the street and eat it all in one shot.

So whether you like them yellow, red, green coming with a mix of awesome colours, one thing’s for sure, different kinds of mango are just delicious and I fully understand my friend Yair who can’t resist to buying and eating a lot

When buying them, most of the time the seller will refer them to “mango from diego” (a bit smaller usually), or “”mangofrom Mahajanga” (usually big ones and a bit milky). I personally do not really care if they come from Diego (the north side of Madagascar) or mahajanga (north-west), as they are just too appealing.

Do you know that teenage girls in Madagascar usually love them green served with a vinaigrette? This is usually called “lasary manga”? You usually find those kind of green mango before the first rains falls. Beware however as Malagasy people believe that mango are not good enough yet to eat until the first rains has fallen… This is usually related to the fact that mango a grown in regions where there a mosquito, and the belief is that the first rains washes the mango from any mosquito-bite so that it can be properly eaten… nonetheless, I strongly advise you thoroughly wash your mangos before appreciating them (I know, it’s an extra step before eating it, but you’ll just simply love them right after)… So go rush to your local “tsena” (market) and grab some (why not mix different types?)

2- jacarandas and mimosas

I know, this is not the best shot ever for showcasing jacarandas, but I just came across this wonderful scenery where jacaranda and mimosa could be framed into one picture where I only had my camera-enabled mobile phone. I’m pretty sure you can find more lovely photos of mimosas or jacarandas on the internet

I personally have a personal history with Jacarandas as we used to having one growing in our garden during my childhood. It was just amazing to watch those colorful purple flowers covering this big tree and all round it.

As for mimosas, its flowers are just amazingly attracting. Do you know that ambatolampy (a city 60km from antananarivo) has even a one-day celebration of Mimosas blooming in November?

3- colourful blogs

This third colorful item I want to remind you about is a bit strange- you may even think that it’s off-topic, but the colors the Malagasy blogs bring on to your daily life are so diverse. So whether you appreciate blue (vita gasy), or green (mivoy gasy), or red(tanora gasy), or some kind of vintage colour, you still have time to add your own colours to the current competition. That sounds kind of limited choice? Don’t worry, on november 26th, you can submit your awesome-cannot-be-categorized blog

Now, this is what I’m asking from you: wherever you are in this world, just close your eyes a bit, put on this virtual color-enhancer glass, open your eyes and enjoy those simple details that you’re exposed to everyday and enjoy …Sometimes simple things can brighten your life… Isn’t it?
